Life Source

“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23

Keep. The phraseology of this verse fascinates me. What does it mean to “keep your heart?” Other translations say “guard your heart.” Both work, but each projects a little different meaning. “Guard” indicates protection, not allowing anything to have access that might cause harm. “Keep” goes a bit further. The word implies caring, as in a shepherd “keeping’ his sheep. The idea here is to watch over, care for, protect, and rescue if needed. Thoughts are the things to watch out for. Emotions are the things to clean up after and corral.

Spring. Why? Because “out of it spring the issues of life.” Everything in our lives is affected by the condition of our hearts. Our attitude, emotional state, and thought life determine our actions and impact our physical health.

Life. This means we are not dependent of others for our well-being. And others can only have the influence we allow. If we have a healthy, intimate love relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, our hearts will be healthy and so will our emotions, thoughts, actions and attitudes. Even our bodies will be healthier because our stress level will go down and we’ll eat better as a result.

Research has shown that meditation improves health and that a positive attitude helps sick people heal faster.

Source. I would go a step further and say that healing comes from the heart.
